PCEF Funding Focus - Technology

The Park City Education Foundation has allocated $60,000, over the next three years, for a district-wide technology endorsement program that trains teachers to use technology successfully in their classrooms.  The technology integration program, which started in September, runs throughout the school year and supports professional development for Park City school district teachers.  Teachers completing the courses, led by Sam Thompson, Mike Kisow, and Tricia Jackson, earn 18 graduate level credits from Southern Utah University.

Park City High School teacher Kelly Yeates says, “I am so excited to explore all of the ways I can infuse technology into the classroom with these iPads.  Not only do I get access to the technology, but through the Technology Endorsement class, I can learn how to effectively use technology.”  This PCEF funded program is in collaboration with the curriculum office, which helps make the impact and dollars go a lot further.  The district funds the teachers’ laptops and PCEF funds the technology endorsement and iPads.

In addition, PCEF has funded several other technology initiatives, especially at Treasure Mountain Junior High School and Park City High School.

At Treasure, a variety of grants covering tools to enhance teachers and students ability to use their laptops.

  • ActivTablets allow math students to create a digital notebook.

  • ActivExpressions allow English teachers to instantly assess the class understanding of material.

  • ActiveSlates allows teachers to circulate the room while still posting lessons on the white board, for a more engaging classroom.

  • LifeSize Express cameras allows teachers to videotape math lessons, allowing students to review missed concepts and classes.

At PCHS, the Ed Foundation granted representative educators from each department an iPad to explore ways to integrate technology in the classroom and enhance the core curriculum.

PCEF also funded a grant across the district for small group iPad training, again, to explore ways to integrate technology in the classroom.  Schools may access these funds at their discretion.
